Isabel Kay Phelps

December 3, 2013 — January 21, 2021

Isabel Kay Phelps passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at her home in rural Callaway in the arms of her mother & father,2 brothers, 2 grandmothers, and a cousin at the age of 7. She reached for God's hand to be taken to her heavenly home after having comfort in the arms of those that loved her dearly that day. Isabel was born in Kearney Nebraska to Mark and Lindsey Phelps on Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013. She arrived at 903 am weighing a bouncing 9lbs 13 oz. Isabel was baptized February 15th at the St. Boniface Catholic church by Father Antony Thekkekara. Her Godparents are Lana & Jim Phelps and Tysen Werner. It was just little over a month after her birth that her family started a journey that would change their lives forever. For the next year there would be many trips to Children's Hospital in Omaha to find out what rare disorder Isabel had. When Isabel was 9 months old she diagnosed with CDKL5, which is a rare neurological disease. Mark & Lindsey were determined to give Isabel the best of life and care. They committed themselves to making their family a survivor of this disorder to the best of their ability. There were many family, friends and community members that helped, supported and Prayed for Isabel, Mark, Lindsey, Emmett and Brecken in the last 6 years. Isabel would soon become known by many as the most beautiful, endearing little girl. Isabel faced tough obstacles with such poise & dignity for a little child, as many know she endured terrible seizures, multiple medications, major painful surgeries, many needle sticks for tests and IV's, seeing/meeting healthcare workers and spent days away from her home. Most of her medical travel was to Children's hospital in Aurora, CO where she would meet Dr. Demerest & Nurse Tristen.. Isabel had many impactful people in her life with her loving therapists, her 1st grade classs, nurses & teachers.ln the last 6 months it was becoming hard for Isabel to fight the battle and her body was tired, she hardly ever cried, she cuddled up in the arms of her parents and grandparents and other family members. Everyone who would be with Isabel was touched by her beauty, her presence, and her strength. Isabel loved hearing the voices of those in her life, laying on the floor playing with others, listening to her mobile in her bed, being outside hearing the noises of nature and life, she had special toys she liked to hold in her hands, & she loved going to her Grandparent's houses. Her family tried every year to take time to go somewhere that could be a respite for themselves. Isabel loved going to the Ocean. It brought a sense of magic that erased all the pain, worries and cares of her disease. After being admitted to hospice in September, it was the last wish of her close family to take her to the ocean one more time. That however was not meant to be when Isabel heard God calling. She left her mom & dad, brothers, family and friends with such wonderful memories and the privilege of having known and loved her. Isabel is preceded in death by Great Grandparents Marvin & Eloise Phelps, Uncle Chris Phelps, Great Grandmother Maria Romero, Cousin Lily Jean Romero. Great-Great Grandmothers Martha Schroeder and Donna Pflaster. Isabel is survived by her parents Mark & Lindsey Phelps, Brothers-Emmett & Brecken ;Grandparents: Tony & Kandy Pflaster (Cozad); Susan Phelps (Callaway); Paul & Susan Phelps (Kearney); Tommy & Merry Romero (Cozad).
