Gary G. Hawley

November 17, 1947 — February 23, 2019

Gary Grant Hawley passed away surrounded by his loved ones on February 23, 2019 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings Nebraska at the age of 71. Gary was born to Vera Stark in Omaha, Nebraska on November 17, 1947.  The youngest child of nine, he grew up in Omaha, Nebraska.  In 1970, Gary moved to Cozad, Nebraska and started his 41-year career at Tenneco Automotive (Monroe Auto), retiring in 2011. On November 26, 1987, Gary married Judy (Hardage) and they had 36 wonderful years together. Gary was very active with South Central Developmental Services; he loved spending time with all of the individuals working there. He was a Peoples First Advisor and enjoyed attending the annual convention each year. Gary won an award from Tenneco for his volunteering in the community. He was a past member of the Cozad Elks Lodge, Lexington Eagles Club, loved bowling, camping at Johnsons Lake, fishing, dancing, softball and Nebraska Cornhusker Football. Gary never knew a stranger and enjoyed visiting with anyone. He loved spending time with his family and his most treasured time was getting to watch the successes of his nine grandchildren, who referred to him as G to The PA.  He was a proud Great-Grandpa of two. Gary is survived by his wife Judy Hawley of Hastings, NE; daughter Ronda (Jon) Loetterle of Hastings, NE; son Scott (Viquel) Hawley of Paso Robles, CA; son Tom (Stephanie) Hardage of Elm Creek, NE; son Michael (Heather) Hardage of Kearney, NE; grandchildren, Olivia, Abby, and Molly Loetterle of Hastings, NE, Reece and Gage Hawley of Paso Robles, Cody (Meghan) Hardage of Minden, NE, Brendon Hardage of Elm Creek, NE, Emily Hardage of Omaha, NE and Drew Hardage of Kearney, NE; 2 great grandchildren, Cas and Amara May Hardage of Minden, NE. Grew up like brothers, Terry (Terrie) Gleason of Lincoln, NE, sister Patricia Blacker from Lander, WY, brother-in-law Evan Durand of Omaha, NE; special friend Larry (Griff) Griffis, of Cozad; his beloved puppy Izzie; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Preceded in death by his mother, Vera Stark; sisters, Darlene Gleason, Judy Durand, Vickie Hawley and Nancy Genovesi; brothers, Stanley (Buzz) Hawley, Les Hawley, and Billy Hawley. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be given to the family in his name for later designation. Celebration of Life Service will be held Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Gleason officiating. Husker attire is encouraged. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1pm to 7pm with family present from 5pm to 7pm at Berryman Funeral Home.
