Virginia L. Saye, born on February 14, 1935, in Sioux City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, in Cozad, Nebraska. She was the cherished daughter of Francis and Leona (Wold) Matthews and grew up as one of seven children. She lived a fulfilling life dedicated to her family, her faith, and her various roles in the community.
Virginia pursued her education at Emmanuel Missionary College, now known as Andrews University, in Michigan, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education. She taught elementary education for six years before embracing her role as a homemaker. Following her teaching career, she provided elder care and found great joy in nannying, which became her most cherished job.
In 1962, Virginia married Robert H. Redmon, and their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Eudine and Vicki. Robert passed away in 1989. Later, in December of 1996, Virginia married John Saye, who passed away in 2004.
Virginia was known for her sweet personality but also had a spicy side that endeared her to those around her. She enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, including sewing and reading, and had a love for traveling. Virginia and Robert dedicated three years of their lives as missionaries in Kenya, Africa, reflecting their commitment to their faith. Virginia was a devoted member of the Seventh Day Adventist church and was very active in its activities.
Throughout her life, Virginia moved across many states, including Michigan, Colorado, Texas, Montana, Washington, and Nebraska, often relocating to support her husband's job, engage in missionary work, or to be closer to her family and grandchildren.
After retirement, Virginia continued to serve her community by volunteering in nursing homes and for Hospice, demonstrating her caring nature and commitment to helping others.
Virginia L. Saye will be remembered for her love of family, her faith, and her desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and both of her husband’s.
Survivors include her daughters, Eudine (Dennis) Stevens of Conde, SD and Vicki (Gary) Fish of Lexington, NE; grandchildren Alex McKoy of Lexington, Jaelyn McKoy of Sioux Falls, SD, Robert (Courtney) Stevens and their children Sophie and Theo of Minot, ND, Raylene (Brandon) Robins of Goldendale, WA, Elizabeth Stevens and her son Ryker, Andrew (Macie) Stevens and their children Nyonna and Bjorn of Conde, SD; step sons, Robert Redmon and his children Brandon and Blair of Michigan and Terry (Billie) Redmon and their children Darlene, Carrie, Jim and Steven of Michigan; and many other extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
