Mary L. Morse

Mary L. (Fox) Morse of Cozad passed away April 21, 2018 at the Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 47. Mary was born April 8, 1971 in Atlanta, Iowa to Dennis and Elaine (Johnson) Fox. She grew up in Custer County and graduated from Arnold High School with the class of 1991. Mary attended Colby Community College in Kansas. She took many classes in horse training and equestrian riding. During college, she met Kent Morse. They were married on September 18, 1993 in Broken Bow, Nebraska at the Baptist Church. The couple were blessed with 3 children, David, Rachael and Dorothy. Mary and Kent moved to Cozad in 1997 where they raised their family. Mary had a passion for helping children and the elderly. She taught Sunday School and served on the Livin' Light Christian Women and Mission to Cozad committees and did mission work on the Indian Reservation. She would bring her horse, Cowboy, to town and give rides to children. She participated in the annual reenactment of the Pony Express Ride. Mary loved all animals, training horses and became the neighborhood vet. She was currently employed at Orschlen Farm and Home in Gothenburg. Mary was preceded in death by her horse, Juanitas Cowboys (Cowboy). Survivors include her mother, Elaine Fox of Kearney; father, Dennis Fox of Texas; husband, Kent Morse of Cozad; son, David Morse of Kearney; daughters, Rachael Morse of Gothenburg and Dorothy Morse of North Platte; grandchildren, Dalyla Cañas of Cozad and Antonio Escamilla of North Platte; sister, Susan Fox of Nevada; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and pets. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cozad Bible Church with Pastor JC Calhoun officiating. Cremation was chosen.
