Linda M. Schmidt of Cozad passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 74. Linda was born February 3, 1950 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Kenneth and Ruth (Carpenter) Thompson. She proudly obtained her GED later in life. Linda married Gordon Waltermire in 1969, they later divorced, and she raised their children on her own. She married Henry Schmidt in 1990. Linda worked in child care and housekeeping in Hastings and Cozad. She loved to play bingo and card games with family and friends. Linda enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Freddie Waltermire and Jewell Schmidt; sisters, Patricia Tunison and Bonnie Thompson; brothers, Donald Thompson, James Thompson and Teddy Pyzer; granddaughter, Melissa Haggart; and great granddaughter, Anniebella Haggart.
Survivors include her children, Rita (Alvin) Guyle of Cozad, Ruth Harvill of Cozad, Kathy (Jeremy) Pickering of Lexington, Bub DeWitt of Lexington, Brian Schmidt of Lincoln and John Schmidt; sisters, Connie (Tim) Johnson of Cozad, and Glenda (David) Nutt of TX; grandchildren, Anthony Haggart (Jasmine) of Cozad, Robert (Annie) Guyle of Wellington, KS, Bonnie Waltermire of Kearney, Gordon Waltermire of Gothenburg, Kristell Browning of Cozad, Corbyn Sattler of Cozad, Drake Sattler of Cozad, Jovi Wear of Cozad, Misty Waltermire, Jazmine Waltermire of Cozad, Katie Harvill of Cozad, Beccah Buell of Cozad, Mark DeWitt of York, Aubri Myers of York, Todd Pickering of Holdrege, Quintin Pickering of Cozad, Hunter Pickering of Cozad, and Donna Linder of Cozad; great grandchildren, Dalton Haggart and Corey, Nate Haggart, Alex Guyle, Kryston Browning, Treyton Browning, Hazleigh Browning, Ahren Garcia, Skyler Hoffman, Nolan Husak, Paul Garland and Rosie Haggart; great great grandchildren, Carson D. Haggart.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Susan Sukraw officiating. Those wishing to sign the memorial book, with family present, may do so on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
