Kent "Toby" Dean Taubenheim

January 19, 1958 — September 21, 2022

Kent "Toby" D. Taubenheim passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

He was born to Lee and Rosemary (Jeffers) Taubenheim on January 19, 1958 in Kearney, Nebraska. He spent his early life on the family farm in Watertown, Nebraska. If you were ever around him long enough you would most likely hear a Watertown story or two. He knew from an early age that farming was in his blood and that is all he ever wanted to do with his life. Later on, the family moved to Amherst where he graduated with the class of 1976.

He was united in marriage to Karen (Wild) Bohac on February 12, 1975. Their union was blessed with a son, Chad and a daughter, Renea.

The family moved to Elwood, Nebraska in 1980, where he got a job working as a farmhand for Willard Bellamy. He continued working hard and eventually was able to get his own land and equipment and start farming for himself. He was a whiz at the markets and knew everything there was to know about running a farm. His happy place was in his John Deere.

He enjoyed nature and would take his kids on nature walks when they were little. He also enjoyed driving his family around showing them everything that he had planted. He was always very proud of his crops.

His kids and grandkids always brought a smile to his face. He enjoyed hearing about how well Collin's classes were going in Texas, and Trevor's hunting and fishing adventures on his land, which he would sometimes join in on the fun. His granddaughters kept him on his toes with their busy lives as well. Quinn and Taylor talked about their softball games and going to middle school while Peyton talked about gymnastics and all of her best friends. He loved his family very much and they will greatly miss their conversations with Grandpa Tauby.

If he was stuck in the house, he would most likely have an old war movie on, like Battle of the Bulge or any movie with John Wayne, and making his famous barbecued chicken and homemade gravy. Something his children have not been able to duplicate.

Toby never knew a stranger. He was able to fill a room up with his smile and his whole body laugh! He loved playing cards, whether it was with his kids, grandkids or his buddies down at the lake. He could talk to anyone for hours, make friends with most people he came in contact with, and could remember people's names from years ago. He was an amazing person with the biggest heart and there will never be another like him. He has left a big whole in all of our hearts and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glenn and Greg Taubenheim; and his granddaughter, Rylee Wolf.

He leaves behind his son, Chad and wife Melissa Taubenheim of Kearney; his daughter, Renea and husband Shannon Wolf of Elm Creek; and his grandchildren, Collin and Trevor Taubenheim of Kearney and Quinn, Taylor and Peyton Wolf of Elm Creek; brother, Tim and wife Janice Taubenheim of Amherst; sisters-in-law, Tammy Kratzer of Riverdale and Bonnie Taubenheim of Lincoln; many nieces and nephews; and more friends than stars in the sky.
