Kenneth R. 'Bud' York of Cozad passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Nebraska Heart Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 87. Bud was born September 5, 1934 in Madison, Illinois to Ralph and Edna Pearl (Fravel) York. Bud grew up on a farm and attended school in Madison. He graduated from Madison High School with the class of 1952. He worked several years Cargill Grain in Granite City, Illinois. On September 8, 1956 Bud married Jennie Stawar. The couple was blessed with a daughter, Kate. Bud was drafted in to the U.S. Army in 1956 and sent to Germany. Following his discharge from the military, Bud had an opportunity to attend college on a military scholarship. He attended Southern Illinois University and graduated with a degree in Business Economics in 1964. In August of 1965, Bud went to work for Allied Mills Feed Plant in East St. Louis, Illinois as a purchasing agent. He transferred to Cozad in August of 1967 as the purchasing agent and hay buyer at Allied Mills. When the mill closed in 1984, Bud then sold crop insurance and conducted seminars to teach other agents to sell crop insurance. He worked for a cable tv company in 1990. Bud was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Cozad Elks Lodge, Eagles Club in North Platte and Cozad Jaycees. He served on the Cozad Hospital Board for 15 years, having served as president for 12. Bud had several hobbies, fishing, hunting, reading and golf. His favorite was woodworking. His talents for woodworking can be found in many homes in Cozad. He also enjoyed spending time at the family cabin at Midway Lake. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen Thiel and her husband, Leo; brother, Ralph York and his wife Helen. Survivors include his wife, Jennie of Cozad; daughter, Kate of Cozad; sister in law, Stephanie Schade of Palm Beach, FL; sister in law, Lorraine Stawar of Granite City, IL; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Bud's wishes were to be cremated. Memorials are suggested to the Cozad Elks Lodge. A graveside memorial service will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Cozad Cemetery with Pastor Kathy Gundell officiating.
