Katherine A. Wilson

Katherine Ann Sheets Wilson, longtime Cozad resident, passed away September 17, 2018 at Meadowlark Pointe at the age of 94.  Katherine was born February 4, 1924 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Fred and Alta (Latham) Schroeder of Curtis, Nebraska. She graduated from Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis in 1941, attended Lindenwood College for Women in St. Charles, Missouri, University of Colorado and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She was united in marriage to Darrell Sheets in 1946. To this union two children were born. Darrell passed away in 1986. Katherine's twenty six years as secretary to the Cozad Senior High, Junior High and Elementary School principals was a most enjoyable career, as well as, her love for travel, bridge, music and sports. She was a member of Cozad United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter CO, Cozad Book Club, Delta Gamma Sorority, several bridge clubs, Delta Kappa Gamma educational sorority and the church chair for fifty five years. In 1989, Katherine married Lloyd Wilson. Their sixteen years together were spent being involved in community activities and traveling. She served on the Cozad Hospital Foundation Board and was recognized in 2013 for "Making Your Mark on Cozad" on Dot Day. Katherine began taking violin lessons in the seventh grade, using her fathers violin. She then added the clarinet for band, graduating from cymbals and continued her music by playing in the Lindenwood College Orchestra and the University of Colorado Symphony. Katherine was a person who loved life, her friends and her community. She will be missed by many. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Darrell Sheets and Lloyd Wilson; daughter, Barbara Lawson; sister, Betty Armbruster and brother, Fred Schroeder, Jr. Survivors include her son, Charles (Jan) Sheets of Brainerd, MN; grandchildren, Jon Lawson, David Sheets and Mandy Sheets and her partner, Kim Herman; step-grandchild, Jennie (Jess) Rockwell; step-great grandchildren, Meagan, John and Elle Rockwell; sister, Helen Latta; and many Armbruster, Latta and Schroeder nieces and nephews. Services will be Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Gahn officiating. Visitation will be held at the church, prior to the service, from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Private burial is at Cozad Cemetery. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
