Jennie G. York of Cozad passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026 at Lexington Regional Hospital at the age of 90. Jennie was born June 26, 1935 in Madison, Illinois to Chester and Irene (Forys) Stawar. She attended Harris Elementary School and graduated from Madison High School in 1953. After graduating, she went to work in the accounting office in a large department store in St. Louis, Missouri. She worked there until she got married.
On September 8, 1956, she was united in marriage to Kenneth ‘Bud’ York. A daughter was born to this marriage, Kate. Jennie and her family moved to Cozad, Nebraska in 1967 when her husband was transferred from Illinois to work at Allied Mills alfalfa plant. In 1970, Jennie went to work at Cozad Elementary school as the secretary. She retired in 2000 after 30 years of service.
Jennie was a member of the American Lutheran Church. In 1968, she joined the Mrs. Jaycees and did a lot of volunteer work. Jennie had several hobbies. She enjoyed reading, doing macramé, crocheting and traveling. Once a year, Bud and Jennie went to California during the month of February to get away from the snow and cold. She also enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Midway Lake. They loved fishing, boating and relaxing on their weekends. She was an avid Husker fan and attended many games, both home and away.
Jennie is survived by her daughter Kate; sister, Stephanie Shade of Panama City, FL; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bud; her parents, Chester and Irene Stawar; brother, Arthur Stawar and sister in law Lorraine; stepfather, John Clolek; and several aunts and uncles.
There will be no services.
