Janet Lee Netherland

July 18, 1946 — December 19, 2020

Janet Netherland of Cozad passed away Saturday, December 19, 2020 at her home, after a short, but brave battle with cancer at the age of 74.  Janet was born July 18, 1946 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Roy and Agatha (Kiesel) Netherland.

Janet grew up on the family farm north of Morrill, NE.  In her younger years she spent time with her cousins on the farm.  She would go with her Dad to check the fields and enjoyed the farm life.  In 2001, Janet moved to Cozad where she found friends at South Central Developmental Services and settled into her home.

Janet had many gifts. She was a sweet lady, yet straight forward. She was proud of her independence and tended to do things for herself. She never played on her limitations, which was seen even in her final days.  She was organized and orderly, knowing exactly where all things were located in her home. She was a woman of faith and her church family was important to her.  She loved her family and friends.  She was compassionate towards others and genuinely cared about them and how they were.  She had a sense of style and a fresh perm and haircut had never looked better on someone.   She had spunk and true character.  She was loved by many and will be very dearly missed.

Janet was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and aunts and uncles and close friends, Pauline and Carol.

She is survived by her Aunt, Maxine Netherland of Elwood, her cousins Brenda West of Elwood, Judy Duncan (Gary) of Greeley, Colorado, and Sue Boehmer of Lincoln, Kathy (Dale) Walker of Gering, NE, Gary (Barb) Netherland  of Mitchell, Nebraska along with other extended family members and friends.

Janet will be buried at Mitchell City Cemetery near Mitchell, Ne on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 11:00 am MT.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church in Cozad at 11:00 am with Elder Donnie Halbgewachs officiating.

Thank you to Central Plains Home Health and Hospice, Jim Underwood, Lori Ann Scroggin, and South Central staff for the care and love shown to Janet.  Memorials can be made in Janet’s memory to the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church or to Central Plains Home Health and Hospice.
