Jane Kinnan

June 12, 1931 — January 13, 2023

Ethel Jane Kinnan of Cozad passed away Friday, January 13, 2023 at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad at the age of 91. Jane, the first of three daughters, was born on June 12, 1931 at Cozad, Nebraska to Robert and Fern (Griffith) Good. Always known as Jane, she attended Cozad schools until her graduation in 1949. Following high-school, she studied music at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She was united in marriage to Don Kinnan on August 19, 1951. During Don’s time in the U. S. Army, the couple lived in Manhattan, Kansas. Don and Jane had three boys; Greg (1954), Wade (1956), and Lane (1959). Don returned from the Korean War shortly after Greg’s birth and the couple resided on the family farm from then until November 2022 when they moved to Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad. Jane was active in many clubs and community organizations. Included were the Presbyterian Church, bridge club, garden club, PEO, Circle, Woman’s Club, and the Robert Henri Museum where she was an original member of the Board of Directors. She taught music at several country schools for many years. Jane enjoyed her family, faithfully attending the events of children and grandchildren. She belonged to several bridge clubs and loved the social interaction of the game. There was always a book or two she was working on as well as newspapers, magazines, and crossword puzzles. Jane started playing the piano at the Presbyterian Church in 1946 and continued by playing the organ, when one was later purchased by the church. She provided music for the church for over 70 years, a source of great pride. During some of those years there were others who played the organ. When that happened, the organists shared duties. When Jane was not playing, she sang in the church choir. She provided music for numerous weddings and funerals through the years. Jane also was involved in church leadership and bible school teaching. Don and Jane loved to travel, both domestic and abroad. In later years they were involved in RV life, belonging to both local, state, and national organizations as well as the local car club. She loved University of Nebraska football and volleyball and attended those events. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; Robert and Fern Good; sisters; Carolyn Irby and Mynette Komarek; and niece Cindy Irby. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Don Kinnan of Cozad; brother-in-law Bill Irby of Columbus; brother-in-law Chan Komarek of Grand Island; sons, Greg Kinnan (Lynne) of Fort Worth, TX, Wade Kinnan (Judy) of Cozad, and Lane Kinnan (Cindy) of Cozad; four grand-children, Brandon Kinnan (Shannon) of Gretna, Nebraska, Corey Kinnan (Andrea) of Omaha, Nebraska, Jordan Kinnan (Ashley) of Cozad, and Justin Kinnan (Sheena) of Cozad; eight great grandchildren, Liliana Kinnan, Isabel Kinnan, and Claire Kinnan of Gretna, Parker Kinnan, Averie Kinnan, Porter Kinnan, Meyer Kinnan, and Margaret Kinnan of Cozad.
