Glennis M. Thies, 92, of Cozad, Nebraska, passed away at Meadowlark Pointe on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Glennis was born on June 19, 1933, in Eustis, Nebraska, to Gene and Cora (Ebele) Gruber. She grew up on the family farm, where she learned the values of hard work, and family that shaped the course of her life. After graduating from Eustis High School, she studied business. She married Myron Schultheiss and they raised three children: Tony, Debbie, and Amy.
Glennis spent her early career in bookkeeping at Cozad, Lexington and Kearney. After Myron’s passing in 1973, she showed remarkable courage and determination, forming a partnership in farming with her son, Tony, who took over the operation upon his graduation. This allowed Glennis the opportunity to pursue a degree in cosmetology. She attended beauty school with her daughter, Debbie, and together they opened a hair salon in Eustis. Her entrepreneurial spirit also shone in her successful years as a representative for Home Interiors, where she enjoyed meeting people and helping them create welcoming homes.
In 1989, Glennis married Richard Thies. They made their home in Elm Creek and the two built a life filled with extensive travel and adventure during retirement. They eventually gave up their motor home and settled in Melbourne, Florida, where they created many wonderful memories together. In April 2024, Glennis and Richard returned to Cozad, where they were embraced by family and old friends until Richard’s passing shortly after. Glennis continued her life there enjoying many family visits and events.
Glennis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Myron Schultheiss, her husband, Richard Thies; her daughter, Amy Schultheiss; her brother, Wayne Gruber.
She is survived by; her son, Tony (Jeri) Schultheiss of Eustis; her daughter, Debbie (Tony) Janus of Eustis; stepchildren, Wendee Rush of Holdrege, David Thies of Willis, TX, and Dana Chavez of Shelton, NE; grandchildren, Torrey (Cody) Gerdes, Zachary Janus, Trista (Tommy) Koch, Tara (Dan) Niles, and Jacey (Wes) Edson; and nine beloved great-grandchildren, Jack and Collins Gerdes, Ellaray, Traevyn and Jaqueline Koch, Everleigh and Raleigh Niles and Finnegan and Oliver Edson. Also surviving is her sister, Barbara Hendry and family of Melbourne, FL
Glennis will be remembered for her strength, resilience, quick wit, attention to detail and sharp mind. She loved family gatherings, laughter-filled visits, competitive card games and most of all, being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all of them.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. A memorial service will be held Monday, September 8, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathy Gundell officiating. Burial at Fort McPherson National Cemetery will be private.
