Gertrude "Fern" Wells

Gertrude "Fern" Wells of Cozad passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 91. Fern, the youngest of six children, was born March 21, 1928 in Smithfield, Nebraska to Herman and Katie (Brooks) Brand. She married John H. Wells on February 24, 1948 in Elwood, Nebraska. The couple made their home on farm sites near Lexington and Smithfield before moving to a farm site north of Cozad in 1953. In 2004 they moved to Cozad. Fern was a loving mother and wife, loved the lord and was a faithful church member. She had a kind generous heart and loved helping others. Fern enjoyed spending time in her garden and crafting. She was an avid baseball fan, especially the Royals, and would stay up all night to make sure she didn't miss the game. Fern was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Survivors include her children, John (Carolynn) Wells of Cozad, Cathy (Billy) Timmerman of Spring Hill, KS, William (Lori) Wells of Peculiar, MO and Linda (David) Ferreyra of Scottsbluff; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Susan Sukraw officiating. Cremation was chosen. Burial will be at a later date. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Friday from noon until 5 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
