Listen to Obituary

David Lee Shirley, passed away on November 30, 2025 at Gothenburg Health at the age of 49. David was born on September 24, 1976 in Lexington, Nebraska. He grew up in the Lexington and Smithfield areas of Nebraska, later moving to Grant at the age of 16. David spent some time in Missouri but eventually returned to Nebraska, where he made his home.

David had a career as a truck driver, spending a few years driving over the road, and most recently worked at Island Dehy in Cozad. He was known for his unique sense of humor, which could sometimes offend, yet he earned respect from many who knew him.

An avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, David had a passion for animals and was often referred to as a dog whisperer. He loved tinkering with things and was proud of his collection of tools, always found working on projects. Additionally, he had an appreciation for music, particularly enjoying speakers that boomed.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Vickie Bray; daughter, Zella Lucille Mae Shirley; aunt, Bonita Richards.

He is survived by his daughter, Alizeah (Chris Ruano) Shirley; son, Zander Shirley; uncles, Kent Flint and James (Lee Ann) Flint; aunt, Patricia Tate; cousins, Steve Richards and Allen ‘Bubba’ Shirley; and many other extended family and friends.
