Charles (Charlie) A. Bean passed away November 8, 2018 at his home in Cozad at the age of 75. Charlie was born March 15, 1943 in San Diego, California to Francis 'Skeet' and Mable (Magnuson) Bean. He grew up in Arnold, Nebraska, where the family farmed, until moving to Cozad. Charlie graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1961. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1968. Charlie served two years during the Vietnam War and served as an electronics specialist aboard the USS Walke, DD 723. Following his discharge, he spent some time in California before returning to Cozad. Charlie married Sharon Kinnan in September of 1969. The couple made their home in Cozad and were blessed with two children, Todd and Tonya. Charlie was employed at Monroe Auto for over 35 years before his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed riding his bicycle, golfing, playing cards, hunting and fishing. Charlie's most treasured times were spent with family and friends. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He loved hearing about their accomplishments and attending all of their activities, from volleyball and basketball to gymnastics and flying airplanes. Charlie was a member of the Cozad Country Club, Cozad Elks Lodge, Cozad Honor Guard and American Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; granddaughter, Emily Paige Bean; and special friend, Karla Bryant.
Survivors include his son, Todd (Stacey) Bean of Atlantic, IA; his daughter, Tonya (Randy) Weatherly of Cozad; grandchildren, Braden, Sydney and Aleigh Bean of Atlantic, IA and Madison, Jacob and Erica Weatherly of Cozad; brother, Mitch (Katie) Bean of Omaha, sister, Peg (Roger) Maack of Cozad; and many other relatives and friends.
Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church or Cozad Honor Guard. Services are Monday, November 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church with Pastor Steve Berke officiating. Burial with military honors is at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm with family receiving friends from 4 pm to 5 pm at Berryman Funeral Home.
