Beverly Ann Brownfield

May 2, 1927 — August 30, 2019

Beverly Ann Brownfield passed away August 30, 2019 at her Meadowlark Pointe home in Cozad at the age of 92.  Beverly was born in Cozad, Nebraska to James and Estella Root Hays. She graduated from Cozad High School and later received her associate degree in music at The Christian College in Columbia, Missouri in 1946.  She married Dale Brownfield June 30, 1946 in Cozad. They moved to the family farm where they farmed and ranched until the early 1980’s.  Beverly began playing the piano and organ for the Methodist Church when she was just 14 and continued playing for over 70 years. She enjoyed playing for 100’s of weddings and funerals and also served as accompanist for the Chancel Choir.  Beverly taught music at District 13 and 19 for several years and enjoyed planning their Christmas music programs as well as several children’s Christmas programs at the Church.  She also taught music at the Trainable School (formerly the old Methodist Church building) and she began the first handbell choir enjoying several years of loving the children while playing her autoharp. She also helped organize the purchase of the Church organ and carillons. She enjoyed serving on Boards and Committees at the Church, playing Marathon Bridge, Cozad Entertainment, Charter member of Chapter IB of the PEO sisterhood, and Elks Club member. Beverly was preceded in death by the love of her life; Dale Brownfield; her parents, James and Estella Hays; her in laws, Thomas and Leila Brownfield; and infant daughter, DeAnne. She is survived by her sister Jeanette Heffernan of Council Bluffs, Iowa;  son, Jim (Gayle) Brownfield of Cozad, NE; daughter, Lynn (Ron) Townsend of Arlington, TX; granddaughter Jamie (Ben) Royal; grandson Michael (Stephanie) Brownfield; and her dear great grandchildren, Madelyn, Hayden, and Hunter Royal and Jameson (Jet) and Blayke Brownfield; her Meadowlark Pointe family; PEO sisters; Church family; and special family friends Bruce and MJ Hart, Natalie (Daniel ) Connolly and Logan Hart. She loved Dale….He  said he was always having to wait on her! Not anymore! Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Memorials are suggested to Central Plains Hospice, Meadowlark Pointe or Cozad United Methodist Church. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Gahn officiating. Cremation was chosen. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living, 2300 Avenue O, Cozad. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
