Benigna Theresa Lucas

Benigna T. Lucas of Cozad passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Emerald Care Center at the age of 68. Benigna was born June 17, 1952 in Lexington, Nebraska to Sixto and Guadalupe (Ceballos) Rangel. She grew up in Cozad, Nebraska and graduated from Cozad High School. Benigna was a hard worker and seemed to quickly move up the ladder at every job she held. In 1998, she went to work at Subway and soon became manager until her retirement in2014. Benigna married James Lucas on November 25, 1985. She loved watching her two son's, Travis and Trevor, play baseball as kids and softball as adults. Benigna enjoyed sports, coaching, and was a good softball player herself. She was very creative and gifted in arts and crafts. Benigna was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She adored her children and grandchildren. Her most treasured times were spent with her family.

Benigna was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Sisto Rangel Jr., Johnny Rangel, Lupe Ceballos, Poncho Rangel, Alice Rangel and Patricia Rangel; and several aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Survivors include her husband, James Lucas of Cozad; sons, Travis Schwietzer of Cozad and his children, Bella, Trevor and Deitric of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Trevor (Deana) Schwietzer of Rocklin, CA and their children Jordon and Devon; siblings, Virginia (Mike) Newman of Grand Island, Ysidro "Winky" Rangel of York, Jessie "Chita" Rangel of Cozad, Mary (Terry) Dishman of Cozad, Sally (Steve) Curtice of Cozad, Sarah Rangel (JSantos) of Aurora, CO, Damian Rangel of Lincoln and Simon (Deb) Rangel of Cozad; along with many nieces, nephews and relatives.

Memorials are suggested to the family in her name for later designation. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be held Friday, March 26, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cozad Church of Christ on Newell. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
