Alice Marie Maaske

July 17, 1933 — March 18, 2022

Alice M. Maaske of Cozad passed away Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 88. Alice was born July 17, 1933 in Custer County, Nebraska to Sela and Francis (Dyer) Miles. She worked as a nurse's aid at the Cozad Hospital for 39 years, starting when it opened in 1950. While there, she took care of many newborns, and she was in charge of the candy stripers, many of whom went on to be nurses. She was inducted into the Cozad Hospital Hall of Fame and also won the Caring Kind Award after being nominated by co-workers. She and Delmar lived most of their years in Cozad. They had a cabin at Midway Lake for 20 years and created a lot of family memories there. They wintered in Sun Lakes, Arizona for 17 years and enjoyed their time and friends there.  Alice was very involved in the Lutheran Church in both Cozad and Arizona, attending Sunday School and circle. Alice was well known for her amazing cinnamon rolls, making them for friends and family. She and her daughter Pat even opened Sweet Expressions, selling her rolls and cookies. Alice was preceded in death by her husband Delmar; daughters, Cynthia and Marie Maaske; brother, Ronald (Ramona) Miles and sister, Mildred (Frank) Lesch. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Terry) Brand of Cozad; sons, Leslie (Tammie) Maaske of Cozad and Kent (Jackie) Maaske of Goosecreek, SC; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Meadowlark Pointe Assisted Living. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church with Pastor Kathy Gundell officiating. Inurnment at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE will follow at 2:00 p.m.
