Thelma Jeanne Brooks

Thelma Jeanne Brooks of Cozad passed away December 10, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney at the age of 71. Jeanne was born February 26, 1946 at Grand Island, Nebraska to Austin and Thelva (Elliott) Bates. Jeanne's family moved to a ranch near Halsey, Nebraska where they would have picnics by the river and grow a beautiful garden. Following high school, Jeanne attended Cosmetology School in Lincoln, Nebraska. In November of 1968, she married Larry Brooks at Cozad, Nebraska. The couple moved several times while Larry was in the military, before settling back in Cozad to raise their son, Michael. Jeanne loved to cook, tend to her flower gardens and take care of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Austin Bates and sisters, Kathy Ristine and Ruth Hunter. Survivors include her husband, Larry of Cozad; son, Michael Brooks of Cozad; sisters, Kay Etherton of Cozad, Lois and husband Jim Hughes of OH, Cheryl Nespor of Milford and Joan and husband Gary Waugh of Gordon; her dog, Ozzie; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jill Boyd officiating. Cremation was chosen.
