Harriet H. Yost

Harriet H. Yost of Elwood passed away October 13, 2017 at the Elwood Care Center at the age of 90. Harriet was born October 20, 1926 at Madison County, Nebraska to Ole and Helena (Olson) Nelson. She graduated from Newman Grove High School. Harriet attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and received her teaching degree. She taught at Newman Grove, Eustis, Smithfield and Elwood schools for over 25 years. On August 7, 1949 she married Robert Yost at Newman Grove, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Elwood, where they lived their entire married life. Harriet was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Elwood. She enjoyed computer work, sewing, baking and volunteering. Harriet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; and daughter, Linda Adams; sisters, Kathryn Murfin and Gretchen Powell and her husband Homer; brother, Neil Nelson and son-in-law, Lenny Nelsen. Survivors include her granddaughter, Sara Gil and husband Leo of Lexington and grandson, Gus Adams of Kearney; sister, Patra Maher and husband William of Rochester, NY; 5 great grandchildren, Camron, Michael, Sasha and Liliana Gil and Louie Adams; brother-in-law, Dennis Murfin of Chicago; sister-in-laws, Bonna Lea Casey and Margret Nelson both of Lincoln; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, Nebraska with Rev. Darin Corder officiating. There will be no visitation. Berryman Funeral Home is assisting the family.
