Dennis J. Harris

August 2, 1943 — May 17, 2017

Dennis J. Harris of Cozad passed away May 17, 2017 at his home at the age of 73. Dennis Joe Harris was born August 2, 1943 at Sargent, Nebraska to Floyd and Thelma (Plock) Harris. As a boy, he worked in the hay fields, helping to provide for his brothers and sisters, and graduated from Taylor High School in 1962. After graduation, he worked as an attendant and mechanic at the Sargent Co-Op. He moved to Cozad in 1965 and became an inspector for the Nebraska Brand Committee. In 1983, he became employed at Tenneco Automotive in Cozad and worked there until his retirement in 2004. He loved all things involving the American West and agriculture - livestock, rodeos, sale barns, and was such an avid viewer of the Western genre, he could name which television or movie Western was on the screen in seconds. Dennis loved his sons, his daughter in law, and his grandson. And he loved a good prank. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, and his beloved Aunts and Uncles. He was also preceded in death by his eldest son Marty Harris, a niece Joslyn Anderson, and brother in law Richard Keefe. Dennis’s survivors include his sons Christopher (Tara) Harris of St. Louis and Shawn Harris of Cozad, his Grandson Parker Harris of St. Louis. He is also survived by sisters Carol Keefe of Sargent, Nebraska, and Linda Miller of Burwell, Nebraska, and his brothers John Harris of La Barge, Wyoming, and Tom Harris of Sargent, Nebraska, as well as many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and friends. A memorial service will be held on July 5, 2017 in Sargent, Nebraska, after which his ashes will be interred at the West Union Cemetery outside of Sargent. A book signing will be held on Wednesday, May 24th, 2017 from 1 to 5PM at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
