Vivian A. Holbein

March 26, 1925 — December 22, 2016

Vivian A. 'Vi' Holbein of Cozad passed away December 22, 2016 at Cozad Care and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 91. Vivian was born March 26, 1925 to Daniel and Della (Lewis) Cronin on a farm north of Minden, Nebraska. She attended country school District #22 and graduated from Minden High School in 1944. Vi married Howard L. During on May 15, 1946. To this union, 4 children were born. Her family was always an important part of her life and her greatest joy was being a mother. Vi married Murl Phillips in 1978. This marriage was all too brief, as Murl passed away in February of 1979. She married Paul Holbein on October 31, 1980. The couple resided at his farm, north west of Lexington, Nebraska. She moved to Cozad after Paul passed away. Vi worked in retail for many years. She taught Sunday School at Buffalo Grove Presbyterian Church, was a girl scout leader for several years, and past president at the Eagles Club in Lexington, Nebraska. She enjoyed crafts and sewing. Vi was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Howard During, Murl Phillips and Paul Holbein; infant daughter, Janis Raye During; 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Survivors include, 2 daughters, Pamela (Ronald) Hossack of WA and Sandra (Butch) Gerry of Maine; son, Roger (Cindy) During of Cozad; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Richard Cronin of Missouri and John Cronin of Colorado; 2 sisters, Della Rounds of California and Edna Stichweh of Hastings; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cozad Cemetery with Pastor James McCrickard officiating. There will be no visitation. Berryman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
