Phyllis I. Fredericksen

Phyllis I. Fredericksen, former Cozad resident, passed away July 19, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 85. She was born January 1, 1930 in Cozad, Nebraska to Clayton and Florence (Stauffer) Small. She attended schools in the Cozad school system and spent most of her life in Cozad. Phyllis married Herman Fredericksen on January 20, 1948 and to this union three daughters were born. Some of the joys of her life were gardening, music, knitting and being outside. She was fond of cats, dogs and watching the birds. Her greatest joy was her family and that extended to other children as well. She could never pass a child without having a conversation and a stranger as well. She loved people. Her busy life in Cozad while raising a family included church activities and overseeing the family run business, The Dairy Sweet. She was an active member of the Church of Christ and was a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and participated in women's ministries. In 1990 she and Herman retired to Texas and then in 2002 they moved to Wichita, KS. She continued to be involved in church activities in those places as well. She had a great love of the church and the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers Clayton "Jack", Norman, Marlyn "Cork", and Doyle Small; and one sister Delores Groves. Survivors include her husband, Herman of Wichita KS, daughters Sandra (Darrell) Yonkey of Lincoln, NE, Sharon (Greg) Howerter of Wichita, KS, Carla (Chuck) Johnston of White Post, VA; two grand children, Joette (Eric) Fuller of Chadron, NE and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Howerter of Cozad, NE; 6 great-grand-children, Micaiah, Makinley, and Jentsyn Fuller, Sydney, Addison, and Emma Howerter; two sisters in-laws , Liz Small of Spokane, WA. and Jean Small of Dallas, TX. and nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial has been established in her memory to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be Friday, July 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cozad Christian Church with Pastor John States officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
