Douglas Vernon Bowden

June 16, 1941 — May 7, 2015

Douglas V. Bowden, age 73 of Cozad, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2015 at his home. Doug was born June 16, 1941 at Steamboat Springs, Colorado to Orville and Mae (Osborne) Bowden. He graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1959. Doug married Darla McNulty on August 24, 1961 and they lived their whole married life in Cozad. To this union two daughters, Lisa and Angie, were born. In his early career he worked for Lee Whitehead and helped build houses with Bill Meredith. Doug became part owner of Five Star Flooring and after selling his part of the business, he continued to work independently through them. Many people requested Doug because of his talent. Doug always loved to tinker with anything that needed to be fixed and if he couldn't fix it he would always find a solution to make it work. Hunting and fishing were two of his favorite past times and he loved to play the Lottery and even had his own favorite numbers when he would play Keno. Although Doug never really said much, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He always looked forward to the times he could spend out on the patio with his very good friend and neighbor Mitch and his dog Tubby. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Survivors include two daughters, Lisa (Tim) Wolf of Cozad and Angie (James) Head of Cozad; 3 grandsons, Michael (Melissa) Putnam of North Platte, Ryan (Tanya) Wolf of Cozad and Jake Wolf of Lincoln; 3 great grandchildren, McKenzie, Kyson and Kearson Putnam; 3 step great-grandchildren, Meghan, Cadence and Miranda; sister, Connie (Chuck) Berryman of Papillion and numerous family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. A memorial has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Parsh officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery north of Cozad. Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
