Barbara A. Lawson

Barbara A. Lawson, age 67 of Cozad, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Cozad Community Hospital. She was born November 26, 1947, in Lexington, Nebraska to Darrell and Katherine (Schroeder) Sheets of Cozad. She attended grade school at District 19 near the farm on which she was reared. She graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1966. She received her degree from Kearney State College and taught music at the Pleasanton School District where she was admired and adored by students. She worked at Eaton Corporation, learning every department procedure before being promoted to a position at their headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1976, Barbara married Michael Lawson. She was a devoted stepmother to Michael's daughter, Jennie, and in 1979, Barbara and Michael were blessed by the birth of their son, Jon. Following her move to Lincoln, Barbara held the position as Director of Purchasing for the State Department of Administrative Services. She then served at Union Bank as Field Adjuster for Collections Department for 11 years. After retiring to Cozad, Barbara pursued interests in Cozad Ambassadors, Teammates and Cozad Rotary. She was a member of the Cozad United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter CO, the Wilson Public Library Foundation Board and Central Plains Home Health Advisory Board. Her friends will miss her hearty laugh and her desire to help others, as well as her support for those participating in sports. Her Meadowlark friends will miss her bright spirit. Survivors include her son, Jonathon Lawson of Omaha; her mother, Katherine Wilson of Cozad; brother, Charles (Jan) Sheets of Baxter, MN; nephew David Sheets of Laguna Beach, CA; niece Amanda Sheets of Denver, CO; step-daughter Jennifer (Jess) Rockwell of Cedar Rapids, IA; and step-grandchildren, Meagan, Ellie and John Rockwell. She was preceded in death by her father, Darrell Sheets and step-father, Lloyd Wilson. Memorials are suggested to the Teammates Program in c/o Jon Lawson, 7320 N. 142nd Avenue, Omaha, NE 68142. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
