Avis J. Zook

Avis Jolene Zook, 75, of Cozad, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. She was born on April 16, 1939 in Portis, Kansas, graduated from Phillipsburg High School in Kansas and attended Kansas State University. Upon completion of her education she was married to Charles Edmund Barg and lived in Wood River, Nebraska for several years. In 1981 she married Robert L. Zook and moved to Cozad, Nebraska where she resided until her death. Avis enjoyed life, especially any activities involving her family. Sewing and cooking were favorite pastimes as well as traveling, golf, bowling and camping. Avis embraced a life of hard work and service to others. While living in Wood River she worked as a cook at Wood River Jr/Sr High School and the Wood River Country Club. When Avis married Bob, she then joined the family business and served as bookkeeper for Zook's Welding Shop until they retired. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cozad where she was an active member of the Mary Circle of UMW, the Cozad Blazerettes, an officer of the Cozad DOES Drove #177, and a member of DAR. She is preceded in death by her parents William I. and Hazel L. (Hand) Bodge; and infant children Wanda Sue and Curtis Eugene Barg. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert L. (Bob) Zook of Cozad; her daughter Teresa Louise (Barg) Chramosta and husband Rick of Minden; Bob’s children Michael (Laurie) Zook of Omaha, and Robin (Brent) Kuhlman of Murdock; grandchildren Katie Chramosta and fiancé Jake Thompson of Yutan, Brittany Chramosta of Kearney, Ryan Chramosta of Minden, Natalie Zook of Omaha, Rachel Zook of Omaha, Allison Kuhlman and fiancé Sam Burtch of Lincoln, Jacob Kuhlman of Lincoln and Carlie Kuhlman of Murdock; brother James W. (Carol) Bodge of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; niece Kristy Bodge of Bryant, Arkansas and many other family and special friends. Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to give thanks to all of Avis' caregivers at Good Samaritan Hospital and Meadowlark Pointe. Special appreciation goes to her longtime physician Richard A. Hranac, MD. A service honoring Avis’ life will be Friday, March 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home.
