Edith M. Allen passed away March 7, 2015 at her home in Cozad, at the age of 85. Edith was born February 22, 1930 at Callaway, Nebraska to James and LaVina (Garringer) Elston. She was raised in Oconto, Nebraska and graduated from Oconto High School. Edith taught school for awhile. On December 24, 1954 she married Earl Lou Allen, Sr. Edith and Earl were blessed with 6 children, James, Earl Jr., Cathy, Jeanne, Vicky and Sherry. They lived in Plattsmouth and York and then settled in Dawson County. Edith worked as a nurses aid for several years before her husband passed away in 1968. She was a faithful and devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene where she was a Sunday School Teacher and served on the Funeral Dinner Committee for many years. Edith was a strong woman. She raised her family on her own and helped many people around her. She babysat many children through the years. She was everyone's grandma, mother and friend. Edith cherished time spent with her loved ones and was first and foremost the center of her family. Survivors include her 5 children, James (Sally) Allen of Olathe, KS, Cathy Strickland of Cozad, Jeanne (Mike) Buesing of Gothenburg, Vicky (Jeff) Weber of Alliance, NE and Sherry (Clifford Godwin) Wyant of Lincoln; 7 grandchildren, Heidi Allen of Olathe, KS, Issac Allen of Elsworth, KS, Justin Strickland of Kearney, Michael (Ashley) Buesing Jr. of Gothenburg, Luke Buesing of Gothenburg, Samantha (Lucas Maier) Earll of Lincoln and Martin Wyant of Lincoln; 4 great grandchildren, Matthew Allen, Lathan Buesing, Isaiah Buesing and Ryker Maier; and numerous other family members and friends including special nephews, Charlie Allen Jr. and Randall Nichelson. She was preceded by her parents; husband; son Earl Jr.; son-in-law David Schwarz; grandson Nathan Schwarz; granddaughters, Natalie and Nicole Schwarz; brother Henry Elston and sisters Lydia Martin and Effie Garringer. A memorial has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in Cozad with Pastor Rodney Mohler officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1 to 8 at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
