Lois M. Lemmon

Lois M. Lemmon, age 96 of Cozad passed away January 13, 2015 at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital. Lois was born October 22, 1918 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Ernest and Ramona (Brestel) Haynes. She graduated from Gothenburg High School. Following graduation, Lois attended Kearney Teacher College. She taught at four different schools in the Cozad area. On August 18, 1942, she married Dale Lemmon at Seward. They lived on a farm site northwest of Cozad known as Burwood Fruit Farm. The farm was established by Dale's grandfather and consisted of 2500 fruit trees. While farming, they built and operated the Lemmon Mills, Inc., dehydrating mill at Willow Island. Lois continued teaching until she and Dale sold the mill and started Willow Island Land & Cattle, Inc., which they operated with their two sons. She worked at the business until the age of 93. Lois was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cozad and past president of the Cozad DOES Drove # 177. Survivors include her son, Rick (Tamra) Lemmon of Cozad; daughter-in-law Suzie (Charlie) Block of Cozad; granddaughter Shannon Aubushon of Springview, NE, grandson Kevin Lemmon of Cozad; and sister-in-law, Vivian Haynes of Gothenburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale; son Brad; and siblings, Milan Haynes, Stanley Haynes, June Hecox and Marilyn Pagel. Memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Church in Cozad. Services will be Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Cozad with Rev. Jim Splitt officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8 at Berryman Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
