Jacob John Kappes

Jacob J. Kappes, age 21 of Cozad, passed away December 13, 2014 as the result of an auto accident. Jacob was born March 15, 1993 in Lexington, Nebraska to Anthony and Sherry (Schauer) Kappes. Jacob grew up in Cozad attending Cozad Public Schools and graduated with the class of 2012. He enjoyed playing football in high school and working for Paulsen Construction. He loved nature and being outdoors. Hunting, fishing and playing video games were some of his favorite past times. He loved watching football and was a huge Cornhusker and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Jacob was a mellow and laid back 'good old boy' who knew how to enjoy life. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. Survivors include his mother, Sherry (Rex Kotschwar) Kappes of Cozad; father, Anthony Kappes of Greeley, CO; brothers, Anthony J. Kappes of Cozad, and Benjiman (Katrina) Kappes of Cozad, Joeseph Kappes of Greeley, CO; step sister, Christen Kotschwar of Omaha; niece Tritny Ann Kappes of Kearney and one niece on the way; and paternal grandparents, Clyde and Marietta Kappes of Ashley, North Dakota; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Leona Schauer; uncles, Stanley Schauer and Michael Kappes. Memorials are suggested to the family. Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
