Velma M. Romatzke, age 98 of Eustis, passed away September 23, 2014 at Cozad Community Hospital. Velma was born September 4, 1916 to Gottlob and Kate (Uebele) Schultheiss North of Eustis, Nebraska. She started school at Plum Creek District #51 through 8th grade and then attended Eustis High School, graduating with the class of 1934. On November 16, 1936 Velma married Fred Romatzke. They made their home on a farm twelve miles south of Eustis. To this union 3 children were born, Kenny, Glenny and Denise. In 1973, Velma and Fred moved to town. Velma worked as a Nurse's Aid at the Cozad Hospital for over 25 years. She also worked at H and J Grocery Store. Velma was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis and has been a faithful and devoted member for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Velma enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Eustis Fire and Rescue, St. John's Lutheran Church or donor's choice. Velma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred in 1976; son Kenny; and brother Myron Schultheiss. She is lovingly survived by her 2 daughters, Glenny (Kermit) Lee of Eustis and Denise Romatzke of Eustis; daughter-in-law Karen of Cozad; 4 grandchildren, LaTonia (Matt) Lindekugel, Shelley (Kelly) Sheets, Donica (Mark) Heineman, Lisa (Jeff) Barnes; 10 great-grandchildren, Skylar, Emma and Shawn Lindekugel, Braylen and Brogan Sheets, Jayla and Quinton Heineman, Isabella, Tregan and Tatem Barnes; sister-in-law Glennis Theiss; very special friend Nancy Laier; and many other relatives and friends. Services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis with Kathy Gundell officiating. Burial will be at the East Cemetery. Her casket will not be open. Family will be receiving friends on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com.
