Mildred L. Gibson

Mildred L. Gibson passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Hilltop Estates Care Center in Gothenburg, Nebraska at the age of 91. Mildred was born March 5, 1923. Third child of thirteen children born to Clarence William and Ada Pearl (Randall) Holbrook. She was born in Warrensburg, Missouri, in a wood shed that was cleaned out only hours before her birth. No records of her birth were filed. In March of 1923 Clarence, Ada and the three children, Mildred only three weeks old, moved to Agra, Kansas. Mildred attended school at Agra and at the age of 16 or 17, she worked at NYA-National Youth Administration. On April 3, 1941 Mildred married Harley Ray Gibson at Gering, Nebraska. Mildred and Harley were blessed with 4 children, Larry, Dale, Linda and Vic. In 1949, the family to Cozad where Mildred was a homemaker, waited tables at local cafe's, and worked at the hospital, and babysat for many years. In 1959, her nephew Danny Wiley came to live with them. She was his main caregiver from the age of two until he became an adult. Mildred was an avid bowler, winning several trophies. Mildred's love for her family was first and foremost in her life. She delighted in the gatherings at holiday time, running her movie camera as family entered her home. Her turkey and dressing was the best! In 2001, Mildred sold the Gibson family home that the family had lived in for 36 years and moved to Haymaker Haven. She then went to assisted living at Golden Living Center and eventually to Hilltop Estates Care Center in Gothenburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harley; infant brother Glen; 3 sons, Larry, Dale and Vic; great-granddaughter Kaelin Christine Rush; daughter-in-law Judy Gibson; sisters, Dorothy and Ruby; and brothers, Orville, Robert, Raymond and Earl. Mildred is lovingly survived by her daughter Linda (Bob) Bubak of Cozad; daughter-in-law Carol Gibson of Cozad; nephew Danny Wiley; grandchildren, Todd & friend Lisa, Mick (Jill), Clint, Nicole (Jarod), Jon, Dana (Brent), Kristy (Bill), Scott; special nephew, Ryan; step-grandchildren, Allan (Sandy), Richard (Bonnie), Rob (Nichole), Tony (Pam); great-grandchildren, Chase, Blake, Macy, Tenley, Jordan, Jack, Ashley, Cody, Lindsey, Britney, Jonathan, Chelsey; step-grandchildren, Blake, Trevor (Kelsey), Ashley, Colby, Ryder, Dillon, Amber; great great-grandchildren, Macy, Hayden; step-great-grandchildren, Ashton and Tessa; sisters, Nada and Ethel, brother Arnold; special cousin Leanne Lacy and many other relatives. Services will be Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Cozad with Kathy Gundell officiating. Burial will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
