Carol Schroeder, age 67 of Cozad, passed away January 9, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Cozad. Carol was born September 2, 1946 at Grand Island, Nebraska to Donald and Mabel (Meith) Rasmussen. Carol attended rural school at Bluffs Center through the 8th grade and then graduated from High School at Cairo, Nebraska. Following graduation, Carol went to Beauty School at Grand Island, Nebraska. She worked as a beautician for many years. On June 22, 1991, Carol married Dallas Schroeder and moved to Cozad with her children. Carol worked as a CNA and then as the Activities Director at Golden Living Center in Cozad until her retirement in June of 2013. Carol loved all of the staff and residents at Golden Living Center and considered them family. Carol received an award for Activities Director of the Year. Carol's true love was spending time with family and friends. Her two best friends for over 40 years were Jeannie Dodd of Ansley, NE and Veronica Gartner of Grand Island, NE. Every September you would find them on the Junk Jaunt Tour. Carol also enjoyed sewing and had a beautiful collection of dolls and angels. Carol was preceded in death by her father, Donald Rasmussen; 3 brothers, Darrel, Ronnie and Russ Rasmussen; 2 sisters, Debra and Ruth Rasmussen; step-son Tim Schroeder; and infant daughter, Melinda Hoagstrum. Carol is lovingly survived by her mother, Mabel Rasmussen of Cozad; husband Dallas Schroeder of Cozad; 2 brothers, Roy (Deb) Rasmussen of Palmer, NE and Lyle (Dena) Rasmussen of Muskogee, OK; son Fred (Lisa) Hoagstrum of North Vernon, IN; 4 daughters, Jodi Schroeder of Taylor, NE, Lynny (Tim) Woods of Omaha, NE, Amy (Jonas) Young of Cozad, and Susan (Mike) Rivera of Altoona, PA; 8 grandsons, Kyle Bernhart-Hosick, Liam and Soren Bernhart-Woods, Isaiah and Elliott Young, Aidyn Garretson, Josiah and Ben Rivera; 5 granddaughters, Adriain, Alisiah and Adysn Young, Ali Garretson and Ariana Rivera; great-grandson, Dominic; also several grandchildren and great grandchildren in Indiana; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church in Cozad with Pastor Mike Parsh officiating. A private family inurnment will be held prior to the service. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
