Eva R. Jack

Eva R. Jack, of Eustis, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 at her home in Eustis. Eva was born August 12th, at Axtell, Nebraska to Carl and Josie (Berguson) Sherman. She graduated from Kearney High School and went on to attend Kearney State Teacher""s College, where she obtained her teaching certification. Eva taught school for a few years before WWII compelled her shift her career toward civil service. She served as the secretary to the commanding officer at Kearney Air Base during the war effort. Following the war""s conclusion, she worked for the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. Eva returned to Nebraska where she ended up teaching at District 8 in Gothenburg. One evening, at a dance, she made the acquaintance of Willard Jack; the two were later married on March 19, 1950. Eva had grown up and been confirmed in the Evangelical Free Mission Church. After getting married, she joined the Evangelical United Brethren Church, which later merged with the Methodist church in Eustis to become what is now the United Methodist Church. She was a past UMW President, helped teach Bible and Sunday Schools and served as an organist and pianist for countless church services, including weddings and funerals. Eva was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile and several other organizations. She and Willard enjoyed travelling extensively throughout the United States and overseas with 4 other couples. She valued education, and always encouraged her children to pursue higher learning. She also valued music, as was evidenced by her many years served as an organist and pianist. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; twin son, Raymond; brother, Carl; and an infant granddaughter. Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Rodger) Taylor of Leawood, KS; 2 sons, Ronald (Jane) Jack and Kevin Jack all of Eustis; 5 grandchildren, Jeff and Bradley Boyle, Michael, Michelle and Karen Jack; 5 great grandchildren, Westin, Audrey, Lincoln, Colton and Brexton; brother, Roland Sherman of Kenesaw; sister, Ella Lemmon of Holdrege; and many other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Eustis Senior Center in her memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eustis with Pastor Neil Kloppenborg officiating. Burial will be in the Westview Cemetery at Eustis. Visitation for memorial book signatures will be held on Sunday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eustis. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
