Robert Brell, age 88 of Elwood, passed away February 7, 2013 at the Elwood Care Center. Robert Harold Brell was born February 17, 1924 at Smithfield, Nebraska to William C. and Opal (Swanson) Brell. He attended rural school and later graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1941. Robert was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church near Smithfield where he remained a member his entire life. On September 21, 1947, Robert was united in marriage to Eunice Marie Holscher at St. Pauls"" Lutheran Church in Bertrand, Nebraska. The couple made their home in the Elwood area where they engaged in farming and raising livestock. Their union was blessed with 3 daughters, Sharon, Marlene and Judy. Robert enjoyed mechanical work and for a time worked at the Ford Garage in Lexington. In later years, Robert spent many hours ""fine tuning""� old tractors, gas engines, cars and collecting antique machinery. Robert and Eunice enjoyed participating in Antique Farm Shows. Robert was a past member of the Hope Lutheran Church Council, Johnson Lake Development Board, Platte Valley Antique Machinery Association and the Golden Rod Car Club. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice on June 24, 2010; his parents, W.C. and Opal Brell; a brother, Wilbur and his wife Renata Brell; brothers-in-law, William Kegley, Louis and his wife Emma Holscher, Harlan and his wife Lucille Holscher, Ronald Holscher, Milton Danielson, sister-in-law, Velma Haight and her husband Eugene; and a nephew, Robert Haight. Survivors include his daughters, Sharon (Alan) Miller of Elwood, Marlene (Terry) Evans of Elwood, Judy (Mark) Eilers of Seward; sister, Alice Mercer and her husband Dick of Kearney, sisters-in-law, Neva Danielson of Kearney, Celeste Cox and her husband Ken of Bertrand; 4 grandchildren, Dale Miller and his wife Susan, Scott Miller, Rebecca Miller and Jamie Evans; 3 great grandchildren, Lily and Ava Miller and Zoie Nichols; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial has been established in his memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Smithfield with Rev. Tim Glendening officiating. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hope Lutheran Church in Smithfield. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
