Harold Schneider

Harold Schneider, age 82 of Cozad, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at the Cozad Community Hospital. Harold was born February 12, 1930 at Lyman, Nebraska to Henry and Mildred (Schilreff) Schneider. He attended rural school in the Cozad area and went on to graduate from Cozad High School with the class of 1948. On February 12, 1950, Harold married Blanche Stauffer. Their union was blessed with 4 children, Vickie, Randy, Paula and Marla. They made their home in rural Cozad, later moving to Overton and Holdrege. The family returned to Cozad in 1956; throughout all of their moves, they farmed and ranched. Blanche passed away in November of 1987, and following her passing, Harold began transitioning away from farming. One of Harold""s favorite pastimes was polka dancing; and one evening, at a dance in Ogallala, he met LuAnna (Plymell) Shill through some mutual friends. The couple shared a love for Polka and dance, and developed a relationship that culminated in marriage on February 12, 2001 at Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in Cozad and would enjoy countless dances to follow, even travelling to multiple states, until Harold""s health would no longer allow. Harold was an outdoorsman at heart, and thoroughly enjoyed hunting. It wasn""t uncommon for him to travel throughout the United States to spend time on a big game hunt. Harold was a past member of the Parkview United Methodist Church in Cozad. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Blanche; and a great grandson, Isaac. Survivors include his wife, LuAnna Schneider of Cozad; son, Randy (Cindy) Schneider of Cozad; 3 daughters, Vicki Schneider of Cozad, Paula Slack of Seward, Marla (Mark) Bruder of Crete; 2 brothers, Hank (Shirley) Schneider of Cozad, Jim ""Duke"" (Sally) Schneider of Bennington; 2 sisters, Darlene Hawke of Cozad, Betty (Richard) Putnam of Gayville, SD; stepson Ivan (Brenda) Schill of Benkelman; 2 stepdaughters, Kathy (Brad) Johnstone of Lohn, TX, Christine (Donald) Schlike of Imperial; 9 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Memorials are suggested to the Dawson County 4-H Foundation or the Cozad Community Hospital Foundation in his memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church in Cozad with Pastors Doug Smith and Mike Parsh officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
