Leon Myer, age 73 of Cozad, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Cozad Community Hospital. Leon was born February 24, 1940 at Cozad, Nebraska to Lloyd ""Dutch""� and Maxcine (Beckley) Myer, and was raised by his maternal grandparents, W.W. ""Bud""� and Mary Elta Beckley. Leon graduated from Cozad High School in 1958, and continued work with his Grandpa Beckley on the family hay-hauling business. On September 10, 1960, Leon was united in marriage to Sharon K. Leahy at Cozad. The couple made their home in Cozad their entire married lives and their union was blessed with 5 children, Anne, Joe, John, Mary, and Ellen. In the late 1970""s, Leon started his career with Paulsen Inc. working on a paving crew. Leon worked at Paulsen""s for over 30 years, serving as the Ready-Mix Plant Manager in Lexington until his retirement in 2009. He had a tremendous work ethic and took pride in a job well done. In addition to Paulsen""s, Leon partnered with his friend Lee Whitehead to form Tri-City Auction Service. The Myer and Whitehead families orchestrated auctions all over the area for over 20 years, their wives by their sides serving as clerks. Leon had been a member of Christ The King Catholic Church for over 50 years, many of those spent as an usher at Mass. He was a charter member of the Cozad Elks Lodge #2250 and a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. In 1990, Leon and his family were honored as the Christ The King Parish Family of The Year. For over a decade Leon coached his 2 sons as they competed in amateur boxing, and more recently was content working in his garden and keeping up with his grandchildren who he loved so much. Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon in 2010; his grandparents; parents; 2 brothers, Bill and Ricky; and a special uncle, Fred Myer. Survivors include his 3 daughters, Anne (Eric) Seaman, Mary Myer, and Ellen Myer all of Cozad; 2 sons, Joe Myer and John (Julie) Myer all of Cozad; 6 grandchildren, Cora-Leigh, Jacob, Jordan, Bianca, Alynne, and Maddux; 2 special sisters, LaVon (Richard) Beans of Cozad, Jean (Cecil) Woodward of Callaway; 2 brothers-in-law, Michael (Molly) Leahy and, Patrick (Deb) Leahy of Cozad; 4 sisters-in-law, Maureen (David) Lewis of Missoula, MT, Janis Hutchins and LaDonna Dannehl all of Lincoln, and Vicki Smith of Cozad; He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial has been established in his memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ The King Catholic Church in Cozad with Father Don O""Brien as celebrant. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Christ The King Catholic Church with a Rosary being recited at 5:30 p.m. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
