Eleanor D. Eggers

Eleanor D. Eggers, age 86 of Elwood, passed away July 22, 2013 at the Lexington Regional Health Center in Lexington. Eleanor Dorothy Eggers was born February 5, 1927 to John and Leona Klein Dunkhas at Hollinger, Nebraska. Her mother passed away when she was two weeks old, and as a result, she lived with her grandparents, Dick and Louise Dunkhas for much of her childhood and adolescent life. Eleanor attended school in Stanford, Nebraska. Following her schooling, Eleanor spent six months in California. Upon her return, she worked as a nurse aide in Omaha at a home for unwed mothers and the elderly. Eleanor also worked in Seward and at the Brewster Hospital in Holdrege. On September 6, 1954, Eleanor married Richard “Dick” Eggers at Lincoln. Their union was blessed with 2 children, Scott and Lisa. Eleanor worked as a nurse aide for twenty-five years at Elwood Care Center and two years as laundry aide. Mr. Eggers passed away in 1980. After many years of caring for others at the Elwood Care Center, Eleanor became a resident herself in July of 2010. Eleanor was a member of First Christian Church of Elwood. She enjoyed traveling to California and taking bus tours to Nevada, Branson, and Wisconsin. She also enjoyed reading, listening to western music, watching baseball and keeping up with what was going on in Elwood. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1980, and her parents. Survivors include her daughter, Lisa (Terry) Wood of Miami, OK; son, Scott (Kim) Eggers of Elwood; 4 grandchildren, Teresa Hart & Charlotte Wood along with Adrian & Anna Eggers; 4 great grandchildren, Austin Hart, Lexi Martin, Kayleigh Hart and Gavin Hart. A memorial has been established in her memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Elwood with Pastor Phyllis Dunlop officiating. Burial will be in the Elwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Elwood. Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad is in charge of arrangements.
