Janet N. Beck

March 7, 1932 — August 4, 2013

Janet Beck, age 81 of Cozad, passed away August 4, 2013 at the Southlake Village Care Center in Lincoln. Janet was born March 7, 1932 at Cozad, Nebraska to Thomas Edward “Bob” and Ethel (Quinn) Render. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1950. On June 21, 1950, she married O.N. Beck at Cozad. The couple made their home at the Beck family farm at Lexington. In 1951, they moved to a site northeast of Cozad where they farmed and ranched. In 1979, the couple moved to town. Janet worked as a clerk in a children’s dress shop when her daughters were very young. Janet did many things to occupy her time when her daughters were older, including selling Amway, working as a secretary at Co-op and working at the County Assessor’s office during tax season. She always seemed to stay busy with one project or another, but when O.N. needed her on the farm, Janet was there to help. Before her health began to decline, Janet proudly worked at the Tri-County Hospital in physical therapy; which she loved because it further connected her to her daughters and grandchildren who pursued careers in the medical field. In recent years Janet made her home in Lincoln, where she resided at Bickford Manor and Southlake Village Care Centers. Janet always had a way of making an impression on people. She loved to go shopping, dancing, and traveling. She was a good cook, and loved to entertain her family during holidays. One would be remiss not to also mention her love of dogs and her favorite color, pink. Janet didn’t do much of anything halfway; and when it came to her grandchildren, she was incredibly dedicated. She would make it to all of their activities, and would cut out and save all of the newspaper clippings that would follow. Janet was very proud of their accomplishments. She loved making memories with her family doing what she enjoyed, whether it was a trip to the mall, a horse show or spending time around the dinner table as a family. Janet was a Past Honored Queen of Job’s Daughters Bethel #30. She was also a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and had served as Past Worthy Matron. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, O.N. Beck, in 2008, her parents, a sister Eleanor Buehner and a brother, Edward ""Jack"" Render. Survivors include her three daughters, Sherry (Paul) Stoll of Yutan, Peg (Don) Butler of Cozad and Pam Smith of Valley; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Stoll and friend, Jennifer, of Yutan, Paulette Tarkin of Pittsburgh, PA, Brianne (Clint) Snider of Waverly, Morgan (Korey) Flesner of Lincoln, Janelle Smith and friend, Fran of Omaha, Justin Smith of Valley, and Catherine Schneider of Mississippi; nine great-grandchildren, Jadyn Stuart, Lily O.N. Tarkin, Ashtyn Quinn Snider, Bryson Eugene Snider, Braiton Wayne Snider, Jonathan Lee Wojcinski, Tyler James Williams, Ava Mackenzie Jackson-Smith and Neeley Ila Flesner; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial has been established in her memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
